Reading the letters of Vincent Van Gogh to his brother Theo for the first time deepened my understanding of his life and work. His honest voice and articulate writing reaches across the years between his time and mine. Phrases from his letters and imagery from his work have been inserted into this series of drawings and paintings that showcase views of my downtown Toronto neighbourhood. Phrases from my own collection of letters are sometimes added to create a present day conversation with Vincent.
